Yoga Nidra is a special interest area of mine. From my first experience I was amazed at the potential for emotional & physical healing. Nidra means ‘sleep’, Yoga Nidra is a conscious deep sleep, which invokes a feeling of calmness and clarity. Yoga Nidra is rejuvenating and can be used to help you relax, in addition to offering access to some incredible powers of manifestation.
Central to Yoga Nidra is the concept of a Sankalpa. This is an intention, a reflection of your hearts inner most desire. If you have had any experience with positive affirmations, the concept of Sankalpa is quite similar. To me, the difference is in the intention. Your Sankalpa should come from a place of integrity and aid you to become your authentic self. Ideally you can articulate your Sankalpa as a short positively worded statement. Speak as though the situation already exists. If you are unable to articulate your Sankalpa, visualisation is equally effective.
Yoga Nidra is experienced though a guided practice. The receiver need only lay in a comfortable position and resist the temptation to fall into sleep. A Yoga Nidra practice is worth multiples of time of regular sleep. It also assists a more beneficial sleep through relaxing the body and mind.
