Therapeutic Yoga nurtures the nervous system and calms the mind through the use of practices that trigger the parasympathetic nervous system (rest / digest response). Ideally our nervous system should oscillate between sympathetic and parasympathetic arousal, however the modern, fast paced lifestyle can cause us to become stuck in sympathetic arousal (fight / flight / freeze response). Whilst it’s the perfect mechanism for getting things done (like running from a tiger, or meeting an urgent deadline), staying in this heightened state of arousal for long periods of time results in adrenal fatigue, which can be the beginning of more serious health concerns.
Whether you are already practicing Yoga or have never stepped foot on a mat, the practices I’m sharing will be accessible to you.
